HON. MINISTER FOR WORKS, HOUSING AND WATER RESOURCES PLEDGES GOVT’S COMMITMENT TO UNIVERSAL WATER ACCESS

Sector Minister, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring universal access to safe, reliable, and sustainable water resources. He made this known at the 2026 World Water Day celebration held at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.

He noted that improving access to water is both a development and a gender equality issue, as women and girls are often the primary users, managers, and custodians of water within households and communities.

He emphasised the need to empower women to actively participate in water decision-making processes as it is essential for shaping effective and sustainable water policies.

According to him, their involvement strengthens efforts to improve water delivery and management across the country.

Hon. Adjei also highlighted progress made by the Ministry and its agencies, such as the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Ghana Water Company Limited, and the Water Resources Commission in expanding access to potable water.

He mentioned some initiatives undertaken in rural and small-town water systems, as well as the rehabilitation of urban water infrastructure to enhance service delivery nationwide.

The event, themed “Water and Gender,” highlighted the need for inclusive water management and the crucial role of women in water governance.

Present at the event were the Deputy Minister, Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, the Chief Director, Mrs. Irene Odokai Messiba and officers from the Ministry and its Departments and Agencies.
