GHANA INVITES TURKISH INVESTORS TO JOIN ITS AFFORDABLE HOUSING TRANSFORMATION – SAYS HOUSING MINISTER

The Minister of Works, Housing, and Water Resources Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening its ties with Turkey in housing and infrastructure development.

Speaking with JoyNews on the sidelines of the ongoing Türkiye – Africa Business and Economic Forum (TABEF) in Istanbul, he emphasised that Türkiye is a trusted partner in Ghana’s quest to provide affordable, climate-resilient housing and improve urban infrastructure. He explained that Ghana’s aim at the Forum was to strengthen existing bilateral relations and attract new investment into the housing and construction sectors.

With Ghana’s housing deficit currently estimated at two million units, driven by rapid urbanisation, population growth and lack of affordable housing, the Minister said the government will be implementing a multi-sector strategy to close the gap.

“We are tackling it through multi-sector collaboration, encouraging local material use, supporting developers with access to serviced land, and ensuring housing is accessible to low- and middle-income earners. Our ministry is also promoting new building technologies that make housing faster and more affordable to deliver,” he said.

On sustainability, Minister Adjei highlighted Ghana’s alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the National Climate Change Policy. “We are promoting energy-efficient buildings, water conservation, and the use of locally sourced, climate-resilient materials,” he said, underscoring the government’s commitment to environmental resilience in housing developments.

Minister Adjei also invited Turkish businesses to invest in Ghana’s housing and infrastructure sectors, citing the country’s growing urban population, strong demand for affordable housing, and investor-friendly environment. “Ghana offers a stable platform for investment, with public-private partnerships, tax incentives, and streamlined land processes,” he said, making a compelling case for Turkish investors to explore opportunities in Ghana.
