The president, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of the Blekusu Sea Defense Project Phase II, which is under construction to protect communities of Blekusu, Agavedzi, Salakope, Amutinu and Adina from the devastating effects of sea erosion.
The President made the observation when he visited the site with the sector minister, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei and other technical staff from the ministry on April 29th 2026.
The 8km project which commenced in July 2025 to shield vulnerable coastal communities from devastating tidal waves, is currently 30% complete. During the visit, the President noted that the infrastructure is already showing early benefits such as improved shoreline stability and reduced wave impact in treated areas.
With significant progress achieved, the President commended Amandi Holdings, the contractors for the project and urged them to work harder to meet the completion timeline. He stressed that communities along the Ketu South coastline have suffered displacement and loss for too long, adding that timely completion of the defense wall is critical to restoring their security and livelihoods.
The President also appealed to residents to support the project by observing all safety zones around the construction area and cooperate with engineers to ensure smooth and safe execution of the project.
The sector minister, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei said the progress of work achieved so far demonstrates the ministry’s strong implementation mechanism and assured of government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable communities and promoting sustainable coastal development.
The project and its ancillary facilities are expected to be completed by 2028.
