The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to completing the 342-unit affordable housing project in Koforidua, pledging that construction will resume upon securing of the necessary funds.
The Minister, accompanied by technical personnel from the Ministry and State Housing Company Limited, toured the Koforidua housing project site as part of efforts to implement President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to complete key housing initiatives nationwide. This visit enabled the team to assess the state of the project and address outstanding challenges to pave the way for work to resume.
This project is designed to provide 53 Three-bedroom apartments and 288 Two-bedroom units. The Minister stated that, the project’s prime location, marked by its proximity to the University, major markets, and hospitals, is considered a key advantage. He reiterated that this strategic placement would directly help ease severe accommodation challenges for workers in the region.
Speaking during the inspection, Minister Adjei emphasized that the initial investment of taxpayers’ money demands continuity despite it being done under a previous administration.
“We are here to assess the facility and determine what the government can do to ensure the project is completed. We will look for funding for the project,” he stated. The Minister later visited North Tongu to evaluate progress of the ongoing social support housing units being constructed for residents displaced by the floods. The units are at various stages of completion and form part of government’s broader effort to provide safe housing for affected households.
