BLEKUSU SEA DEFENSE PROJECT PHASE II: PROGRESSES STEADILY

The Minister has expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project Phase II during an inspection exercise on Wednesday, 19th November 2025, at Blekusu, located in the Ketu South Municipal District of the Volta Region.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen coastal protection infrastructure and safeguard vulnerable communities along the Volta coastline, the Minister stated that he was impressed with the pace of work, particularly the construction of groynes under the sea defence project. “I must say that I am impressed by what is going on here because I’ve been receiving payment certificates in the office, and I kept asking myself if the work was really going on the way these certificates kept coming,” he remarked.

The Minister, after observing the visible progress, machinery on site, quarry operations, and personnel strength, stated that the contractors appeared to be ahead of schedule. “Looking at the work going on here, I think they are on track. They are even ahead of time. So I’m very impressed”.

The Sector Minister encouraged the contractors to maintain their momentum, cautioning that the commendation should not lead to complacency. “Please, you are doing a good job, but we expect you to do more,” he advised. “If you are able to complete the work earlier, we will be very happy because we don’t want the people in this community to keep suffering when the waves start coming.”

He further assured the contractors of continuous government support, provided the required standards are upheld. “The Ministry is ready to give you all the necessary support that you need, only if you are doing the right thing. You have our support, but we will keep coming. So when you decide to go back, we will also push you forward.”

The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, also pledged the region’s cooperation and support for the successful execution of the project.
